House of Mercy in Manassas will be hosting its fifth annual Christmas with Mercy on Saturday, Dec. 12. The event provides gifts to children who, otherwise, might not receive any this Christmas. In years past, HOM has relied partly on Toys for Tots to help provide gifts; however, this year, it is relying on the "kindness of the community."

On Saturday, Sept. 12, local Boy Scouts, Prince William County Solid Waste Division and Keep Prince William Beautiful will celebrate the grand opening of a second American Flag Collection Center in Prince William County. The Balls Ford Road Yard Waste Compost Facility, 13000 Balls Ford Road, Manassas, flag collection service will be joining the service at the county landfill for citizens and businesses to retire American flags with respect.

The last day of school for the 2014–15 school year will be Thursday, June 18. Elementary and middle school students will be dismissed on a half-day schedule. Lunch will be served in the elementary and middle schools.

High school boys and girls rugby State Championships will be held Saturday May 30 at Patriot High School in Nokesville. Gates will open at 9 a.m. with numerous matches throughout the day that will conclude by 7 p.m.

Thirty-six art students in Prince William County Schools' grades 1-12 are exhibiting their work at the Hylton Performing Arts Center through March 7.

Scouts and their families will be participating in a circuit hike (about 4 miles) through the City of Manassas Feb. 7, weather permitting with stops at five churches. Participants will donate food and will pick up trash along the way. At each stop a church representative will conduct an interactive discussion with the youth about two of the Ten Commandments along with a brief introduction to their particular religious denomination.

An eight-man crew of City of Manassas VA Electric Department workers is asking for the community’s help in providing Christmas for a family of nine – a single mother and her eight children, ranging in age from 5 to 17.
