Tree planting and tree giveaway Oct. 16 at Bristoe Station

Join KPWB, the Arbor Day Foundation, and AWS InCommunities for a tree planting and tree giveaway 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Volunteers will be planting trees throughout the Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park, while 50 trees will be given to community members on a first come, first serve basis.

Ground to be broken June 29 in Nokesville on smart home for severely injured veteran

The "Building for America's Bravest" team of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation will break ground Monday, June 29 at 11 a.m. at 13460 Nokesville Road, Nokesville, on a customized new "smart home" for Retired USMC Cpl. Adam Devine, who was catastrophically injured in Afghanistan.

On the five-year anniversary of Haiti’s devastating January 12, 2010 earthquake, a Haymarket, Va. non-profit is on the ground and continuing to help orphans there. "There are 1 million orphans and abandoned children in Haiti,” Debbie Harvey said. “We currently love and support 40 kids ages two through 18 in our Kay Anj Village."

Barbara DeChene takes helm at ACTS; Frances Harris resigns after 11 years

Action in Community Through Service's Executive Director Frances Harris tendered her resignation to the ACTS Board of Directors in June, and it now becomes effective today, July 10, according to a news release. Interim Executive Director Barbara DeChene will now lead ACTS.
