Habitat for Humanity begins ‘Stock the ReStore’ donation drive

Habitat for Humanity Prince William County is closing its current location at 9506 Center Street, Manassas on December 31. On Jan. 23 it will reopen in the former Food Lion space at 10159 Hastings Drive, at the corner of Hastings Drive and Dumfries Road near the Fairgrounds. In preparation for the opening, Habitat is holding a “Stock the ReStore” donation drive.

Thanksgiving tradition in Lake Ridge will be returning in 2016

A community tradition, the Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Old Bridge United Methodist Church in Lake Ridge, is taking a year off, but will return in 2016. Old Bridge has hosted the dinner for some 20 years.

Community meeting Nov. 5 on proposed church and school at US 15/Waterfall Road

A community meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5, 7 to 8 p.m. at Evergreen Fire Station, 3510 James Madison Hwy, Haymarket, VA 20169 on the proposed St. Katharine Drexel Church and School to be located on a 28 acre site at US Route 15 and Waterfall Road. Sudley Church’s 92nd Turkey-Oyster Dinner and Bazaar on Oct. 23

Nancy Harrover, Sudley's United Methodist Women (UMW) chair and dinner co-chairs Terry Abate and Karen Milihram, the tradition started in 1923 with 15 gallons of oysters. Today, the cooks prepare 40 gallons of oysters, 32 large turkeys and 18 turkey breasts. Sdes include mashed potatoes, dressing, green beans, Waldorf salad and more. Over the past five years, 1,100 to 1,200 in-house and carryout meals were served.

Antioch Baptist to mark 178th anniversary Sept. 27

On Sunday September 27, 2015 Antioch Baptist Church in Haymarket will celebrate its 178th anniversary. The celebration will include guest speakers and musicians in the 11 a.m. service followed by a picnic on the church grounds.

Summer session of Centreville Baptist Church’s Learning Support Ministry starts in July

Centreville Baptist Church is into its second year of reaching out to immigrant families who need academic help through its Learning Support Ministry. Daniel Park, a pastor and Director of Ethnic Ministry, initiated the special ministry after realizing that people are coming to the United States for education for themselves or their children.
