Manassas City Police Department will offer a free VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) etching event on Saturday, Sept. 15 in the parking lot of the Walmart at 9401 Liberia Ave., Manassas. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etching, a fast, safe and simple process, is one of the most effective means to deter auto theft that is currently available, according to the city's crime prevention specialist.

The Virginia Department of Transportation has issued a notice to the driving public that paving will close I-66 eastbound and westbound ramps to southbound Fairfax Co. Parkway this weekend, Aug. 10-13: from 10 p.m. Friday night to 4 a.m. Monday morning.

Two adults and one child were displaced when a fire broke out in the 9700 block of Sudley Manor Drive in Manassas VA around 1:45 a.m. this morning, Thursday, Aug. 9. One firefighter became ill during overhaul operations and was transported to a medical facility for treatment, according to Prince William County Fire & Rescue.

Prince William County VA Police are continuing their investigation into the death of a four-year-old boy of Woodbridge boy, 4, on July 15, after a family member called to report a gunshot wound to the head at 3:25 p.m. At this time, it appears the shooting was accidental and that the injury was self-inflicted, according to Officer Jonathan Perok, police spokesman. The name of the deceased was released July 26.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management has announced that there will be a regional earthquake drill Oct. 18 at 10:18 a.m. in the southeast United States, and Virginia has signed on as a participant. Individuals, businesses, schools and organizations are invited to participate. Other states and other areas around the world are also participating in earthquake drills, some at different times.
