The goal of National Hurricane Preparedness Week is to inform the public about hurricane hazards while providing information that can be used to take action to save lives at work, home, on the road or on the water before, during, and after a hurricane strikes.

On May 1, the Novant Health UVA Health System facilities officially changed names. The name change affects Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center, Novant Health Prince William Medical Center, Novant Health Caton Merchant House, Novant Health Cancer Center and UVA Culpeper Hospital.

On May 6, detectives from the Homicide Unit received confirmation that the victim located on April 29 near a drainage ditch in the area of Cotton Mill Rd and Griffin Ave in Woodbridge was Lizeth Yadira LOPEZ. Manassas police are seeking information about an April 28 incident that occurred around 2:15 p.m. in the 9700 block of Main Street when a girl, 9, was approached outside her apartment building by a white male in his 20s. After a brief exchange, the male left in a van, police said.
