On May 1, the Novant Health UVA Health System facilities officially changed names. The name change affects Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center, Novant Health Prince William Medical Center, Novant Health Caton Merchant House, Novant Health Cancer Center and UVA Culpeper Hospital.

Homicide victim found April 29 near Cotton Mill Rd. in Lake Ridge identified

On May 6, detectives from the Homicide Unit received confirmation that the victim located on April 29 near a drainage ditch in the area of Cotton Mill Rd and Griffin Ave in Woodbridge was Lizeth Yadira LOPEZ. Detectives are currently working in conjunction with the Medical Examiner’s Office to investigate the results of the autopsy

Feds asked to clarify legal protections for LGBT students

In response to recent attempts of legislatures to limit the rights of LGBT people and transgender students, U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and Tim Kaine (D-VA), along with 38 Senate Democrats, urged the Department of Education to release comprehensive guidance on the full scope of protections afforded to transgender and gender non-conforming students in US middle schools, high schools, and colleges.

Suspicious event in Manassas prompts city police to ask for public’s help

Manassas police are seeking information about an April 28 incident that occurred around 2:15 p.m. in the 9700 block of Main Street when a girl, 9, was approached outside her apartment building by a white male in his 20s. After a brief exchange, the male left in a van, police said.
