The goals of this fire are to maintain wildlife habitat and control woody and invasive species. This will be the park’s second prescribed fire following a successful burn in April 2018.

James C. Ward was a part-time Firefighter for the Virginia Department of Forestry, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on March 30, 2024.

Prince William County Police report that a suspect, identified as Jonathan Montile MIDDLETON, who police were seeking in connection with a March 23 fatal shooting that was reported to have occurred at Club Tempo, which is located at 17650 Possum Point Road in the Town of Dumfries (22026), turned himself into police without incident.

Prince William County Police report that police officers found the bodies of two adult women inside the residence by police during a welfare check, both appearing to have been shot. Both victims were pronounced dead on the scene. A person of interest has been detained in Shenandoah County, according to a police report.

April is Invasive Plant Pest and Disease Awareness Month and there is a lot of concern about non-native plant pests and plant diseases. Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) encourages everyone to help reduce the threat that invasive plant pests and diseases pose to Virginia’s agricultural and natural resources.
