Prince William County Fire Marshal's Office has determined the cause of a July 5, 2024 fire in Woodbridge to be the improper disposal of fireworks in a combustible trash receptacle stored Inside a storage shed, said Matt Smolsky, Fire Marshal. Ten people lost their homes when a total of three townhouses were deemed unsafe to occupy.

FEMA to evaluate emergency readiness of North Anna Power Station week of July 15

The US Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports that it will evaluate a Biennial Radiological Emergency Preparedness Exercise for communities around the North Anna Power Station in nearby Louisa County. The exercise will occur during the week of July 15, 2024, to assess the ability of Virginia government to respond to an emergency at the nuclear facility.

Responding police officers located a 17-year-old male juvenile in an outdoor stairwell suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers provided aid to the juvenile who was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Dominion to host June 18 & June 20 meetings on plans to rebuild and upgrade transmission lines

The plan is to rebuild the electric transmission lines that run between Dominion's Possum Point Substation in Dumfries and its Fredericksburg Substation because the lines "are at the end of their service life." At the same time, Dominion plans to upgrade the lines - from 115 kilovolts (kV) to 230 kV.
