Six historic sites designated as Virginia landmarks

Among the six places recently listed in the Virginia Landmarks Register are a house in Charlottesville designed by Milton L. Grigg, the celebrated architect best known for his work on the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg and Monticello in the 20th century; a Danville elementary school featuring architecture representative of mid-20th–century educational trends and their effect on the development of suburbs in Virginia after World War II; and a unique, mid-1700s American frontier–style home in the Shenandoah Valley that grew into a commercial business in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (PWCAC-DST) will host its 31st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Youth Oratorical Program on Monday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. via its YouTube Channel – PWCAC-DST-MEDIA. Past winner Norman Jones and the Rev. Al Sharpton will be among the guest presenters. The 2021 theme is “Beyond the Dream – Young Voices with Something to Say.”

No 9-11 memorial service at PWC today; county releases video

Prince William County produces memorial video to honor the 22 Prince William County residents who lost their lives on 9-11. The usual memorial service has been canceled due to COVD-10.

PWC historical sites to open for events; call to schedule a tour

Ben Lomond Historic Site, Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre and Rippon Lodge Historic Site are open for tours at 11am, 1pm and 3pm; Thursday-Monday. Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park Tours will be offered the 2nd and 4th weekends. Grounds are open from dawn until dusk, with appropriate six feet social distancing. Free admission to newly updated Virginia Museum of History & Culture Sept. 17

This coming Saturday, Sept.17, 2022, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) will offer free admission as part of Smithsonian Magazine's 18th annual Museum Day initiative. Museums, zoos, and cultural centers from all 50 states participate in this annual day to encourage visitors to take advantage of amazing learning experiences.
