Mattie Quesenberry Smith, VMI writing instructor, chosen Virginia’s Poet Laureate

Smith has served as a First Year Writing and Rhetoric Instructor at the Virginia Military Institute since 2013, teaching courses in rhetoric and writing. She is a published poet and has received numerous awards for her work.

The 36th Annual Edgar Rohr Memorial Antique Car Meet on Sept. 17 drew a large crowd of vehicle enthusiasts, even though it wasn’t a picture-perfect festival day. About 150 owners drove or trailered their classic (at least 25 years old) vehicles to the show; most were parked on the Manassas Museum’s lawn. There were antique cars and trucks with owners ready to talk about their babies and why they are so proud of their classic vehicles.

Area commutes can be a breeze

Getting to work is a breeze for some and a hard slog for others. If you’re lucky enough to work from home, it may just be a matter of walking from one room to another. You may not even bother getting dressed or putting on makeup or shaving. Others who have to drive to work may be lucky to live close by or they have timed their departure and picked the best route to make it easier. Four locals, chosen at random, shared their driving experiences in the area.
