Carolina Structural Systems to build new facility near Emporia: $5.5 million investment + 58 jobs

Carolina Structural Systems, a manufacturer of custom wood trusses and other structural wood products, will invest $5.5 million to establish a new manufacturing facility near Emporia.. The company will construct a 40,000-square-foot facility in the Greensville County Industrial Park.

All contractors who do business with Va.‘s Executive Branch to agree to non-discrimination policy

Governor McAuliffe today issued Executive Order 61, which will advance the cause of equality in Virginia by requiring all future state contractors with the Executive Branch to agree to a non-discrimination policy that includes discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. This action builds on Executive Order Number 1 by extending the same protections offered to state employees to the employees of contractors that do business with the Commonwealth.

Proposed changes for swimming pool construction in Prince William County

Prior to the 2012 Virginia Construction Code being adopted, the Building Official was primarily required to enforce requirements related to swimming pool safety barriers and swimming pool electrical requirements. Prince William County must now also enforce circulation design, diving water envelopes, new barrier requirements and energy conservation requirements, according to the county's Building Official. The comment period, procedures and time line are described below. Comments due by Jan.11, 2017.

Dominion Foundation supports homeless services with donation to NVFS

Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS), a human services nonprofit organization that operates two emergency shelters in the greater Prince William area and one shelter in Fairfax County as part of its continuum of services, was the recipient of a $20,000 grant awarded recently by the Dominion Foundation, the charitable arm of Dominion Resources.

Survey program results: No boll weevils in Virginia

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) recently completed the 2016 cotton boll weevil survey and detected no weevils in Virginia. The destructive pest was first detected in the state in 1922.
