Vulcan Quarry to give sand to Town of Occoquan residents and businesses preparing for storm

Town of Occoquan's neighbor Vulcan Materials has agreed to provide sand for sand bags free of charge to town residents and businesses who believe this will assist in prevent flooding of vulnerable low-lying areas. Vulcan does not have bags, however, which residents and business people will have to purchase elsewhere and take to the quarry to fill themselves.

Boon for Manassas: Micron to invest $3 billion to boost microchip production and add 1100 jobs

Virginia successfully secured Micron’s commitment to invest $3 billion in expanding in Manassas, after the company considered multiple other locations around the world. The expansion will position the Manassas site as Micron’s Center of Excellence for long-lifecycle memory and will cement the company’s position as one of Virginia’s largest exporters, as it is expected to increase exports from the Commonwealth by more than $1 billion annually after completion.

$10 milllion pilot federal program will fund a host of economic development in southwest Virginia

Look for future new industrial sites, broadband access, clean energy development, tourism, and agriculture in southwest Virginia as a result of a $10 million pilot federal grant program which was part of the federal Omnibus Funding Bill passed in May.

Winery at Bull Run to expand: 38 new jobs and double production

Gov. Ralph Northam announced Aug. 23 that The Winery at Bull Run will invest $1.7 million, create 38 new jobs, and double production of its award-winning wines, which are made using only Virginia-grown grapes. The winery, which opened in 2012 on 225 acres adjacent to the Manassas National Battlefield Park, is an important tourist attraction, bringing thousands of tourists to the Commonwealth each year.

Primera Air sets up at Dulles Airport, will specialize in low-cost transaltantic flights

Virginia unemployment dips to lowest rate since 2007

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced Aug. 17 that Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased in July to 3.1 percent and was down 0.6 percentage point from a year ago.
