Battlefield High School invites the community to attend the Haymaker STEM Expo on Saturday, Feb. 6, rescheduled from Jan. 23. The event will offer a multitude of family-friendly activities for students and adults of all ages. Admission is free, and the event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, January 19, All Prince William County Public Schools will open two hours late due to the projected sub-zero temperatures in the morning. SACC will open two hours late. These precautions will ensure the safety of all students, especially the thousands who walk to school.

SPARK, the Education Foundation for Prince William County Public Schools, will award at least 10 scholarships to graduating seniors this year. Applications are now available on the SPARK website for these scholarships.

For those wanting to enroll in a PWCS specialty program but haven't applied yet, time is running short. For students residing in Prince William County before Jan. 1, the deadline for applications is Monday, Feb. 1, 2016. Students moving into the county after Jan. 1 should call the coordinator of the program(s) of interest for more information.

Prince William County students will compete in the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Oratorical Contest on Monday, January 18 at C.D. Hylton Memorial Chapel, 14640 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge. The event will begin at 11 a.m. More than 1,500 people are expected to attend.

Outstanding orchestra students from Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) at the middle and high school levels will combine their talents for an afternoon of music at the upcoming All County Orchestra program, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30 at Stonewall Jackson High School. The annual event gives young musicians a chance to perform challenging scores under the direction of a guest conductor.

Paul Rischard of Hylton High School was presented the 2015 Excellence in Teaching Award for U.S. secondary schools by the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages.
