Dr. Steven L. Walts, school superintendent for Prince William County, has been recognized as Region IV Superintendent of Year for the second time. He was also recognized in 2010 for demonstrating innovative leadership, clearly targeting teaching and learning and for supporting academic rigor, particularly with specialty programs in elementary, middle and high schools.

George Mason Board of Visitors May 5 approved the university’s $1 billion budget for the 2016-17 academic year. This includes a 2.7 percent increase in tuition, fees, room and board for in-state students and more money for financial aid. For out-of-state students, the increase is 2.9 percent.

Open registration for Northern Virginia Community College’s fall 2016 semester begins May 2. Students may secure classes early while the most choices are available and not pay tuition until July 25. Starting July 25, tuition is due by 5 p.m. on the next business day after registering.
