The Osbourn High School It's Academic Team will be appearing on the TV quiz show, It's Academic, on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, beginning at at 10 a.m. on our local PBS channel. The episode was filmed on Saturday, October. 26, 2024.

Jill Balow, Va. Supt. of Public Instruction, resigns post

Jill Balow, Virginia's Superintendent of Public Instruction, announced her resignation March 1 as the commonwealth’s chief school officer effective March 9 in a letter to Governor Glenn Youngkin. She will have served a little more than 13 months when she steps down.

Lake Ridge Middle School threatened; suspect, 12, held at PWC Juvenile Detention

On Feb. 22, 2023 at 6:13PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to investigate a potential threat of violence made towards Lake Ridge Middle School, 12350 Mohican Road in Woodbridge (22192), according to Master Police Officer Renee Carr, public information officer. The investigation revealed that an unknown individual, later identified as a student of another school, posted threats directed towards the school over Snapchat.

Va. launches “Engage Virginia” to help students recover from the impact of the pandemic

Department of Education has launched “Engage Virginia,” an online academic recovery and coaching program to help students recover from the impact of the pandemic on learning, attendance and related issues. School divisions must opt-in for their students to participate in the program.

National Merit fallout - Legislation to outlaw delaying accolades and awards from Va. students

In response to reports that Fairfax County withheld National Merit awards from students, thereby jeopardizing their scholarship opportunities, Gov.Youngkin asked the Atty. General to investigate Fairfax County's handling of 1,000+ students who were not notified of National Merit Awards. Now, the controversy has spread to 16 Northern Virginia schools, including Loudoun and Prince William counties, who delayed notifying students of their National Merit recognition.
