To assist students with disabilities and their families in planning for life after school, the Prince William/Manassas/Manassas Park Transition Council will host its annual free Transition Fair on Saturday, March 18, from noon–3:30 p.m. at the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Rd., Manassas 20112.

Registration is taking place now for an eight-week session that begins March 13 at Northern Virginia Community College. Courses in the eight-week session cover the same material and award the same credits as semester-long classes. Students may enroll online 24 hours a day at http://www.nvcc.edu/startstrong

The “Alternative Education” School Naming Committee will hold a community input session to receive name suggestions for the “Alternative Education” School, also known as “Non-Traditional School,” currently under construction at 14550 Aden Road, in Manassas. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 27, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Colgan High School in Manassas.

Superintendent Steven L. Walts kicked off recognition of School Board Appreciation Month at the Board’s meeting on February 1. “Our School Board members deserve credit for the high quality of education that is provided to the students attending Prince William County Public Schools,” Walts was quoted as saying in a news release. “We could not do our jobs without the help, leadership, and the commitment of our dedicated School Board.”

Ashley Dimino, a junior at Brentsville District High School, is the grand prize winner in the 2017 Youth Art Month flag design competition. Ashley’s design will be on display during March at the National Art Education Association Convention in New York City.

The annual Prince William County Schools' student aide job fairs will be held on March 7 at Osbourn Park High School and on March 9 at Gar-Field High School, from 6-7:30 p.m.
