Female, 13, arrested with knife on Beville Middle School grounds

On Halloween, October 31, 2024, at 2:46PM, the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Beville Middle School located at 4901 Dale Blvd. in Woodbridge (22193) was alerted to a student in possession of a knife. After consultation with Juvenile Court Services, the case resulted in formal action and will be handled through the court process at a later date.

Trees take center stage during Arbor Day ceremonies at Alvey and Leesylvania schools

At J.W. Alvey Elementary and Leesylvania Elementary, students gathered under slightly soggy skies to mark Arbor Day, a day dedicated to tree planting. These ceremonies were two of several taking place at schools around the county.

Patriot HS teacher selected for national faculty for new Pre-AP theatre program

As the only performing arts teacher, out of the 75 teachers chosen, Patriot High School's Kathryn Facemire will contribute as the visual and performing arts expert for the new program currently in development. She will guide the creation of content and, this summer, will lead workshops for the teachers who will pilot the new program across the country in the upcoming school year.

VSU receives grant to expand urban agriculture education through distance learning

Virginia State University has been awarded $249,800 by the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) to expand its urban agriculture education through distance learning. The Sustainable Urban Agriculture Certificate Program will be changed from its current face-to-face format to a self-paced, online option.

Prince William School Board appoints Dr. Babur Lateef as interim Chairman at-Large April 18

Dr. Babur Lateef interim appointee will perform all duties of the Chair of the School Board until the position is filled in a November 2018 special election. The position became available after the resignation of Chairman Ryan Sawyers in early March.
