Female, 13, arrested with knife on Beville Middle School grounds

On Halloween, October 31, 2024, at 2:46PM, the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Beville Middle School located at 4901 Dale Blvd. in Woodbridge (22193) was alerted to a student in possession of a knife. After consultation with Juvenile Court Services, the case resulted in formal action and will be handled through the court process at a later date.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) and the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) recently awarded college and higher-education scholarships to 13 Northern Virginia high school seniors.

First Spanish-English radio learning program starts in Virginia May 1

Virginia Department of Education is partnering with Radio Poder WBTK 1380 AM — a Richmond Spanish-language station — to launch “Virginia: Educación en Radio,” the commonwealth’s first bilingual radio learning program, according to James Lane, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “Virginia: Educación en Radio” will feature prerecorded lessons in multiple subject areas to support continuity of learning for Spanish-speaking students in grades K-12 while schools are closed to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) will shift to remote learning for students out of an abundance of caution and with a goal of supporting CDC guidance regarding social distancing during the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, according to a NOVA news release.

Police charge male juvenile, 16, with destruction relating to swastica symbols found at high school

On March 2, the suspect sought in connection to the graffiti that was reported to have occurred at Forest Park High School, located at 15721 Forest Park Dr. in Woodbridge (22193), on February 26 was identified. Charged on March 3 with destruction of property was a 16-year-old male juvenile of Dumfries.

Applications for NOVEC scholarships due March 15

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative and the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives are offering higher-education scholarships to public, private, and home-schooled high school seniors whose families receive electricity from electric cooperatives. Online applications at novec.com for NOVEC's scholarships are due Sunday, March 15, 2020. VMDAEC applications are due Friday, Feb. 28, 2020. Students may apply to both organizations.
