Like a family reunion, the dedication of the Dumfries Elementary School library to long-time School Board member Betty D. Covington (Potomac) brought out former students, lifelong friends, a U.S.Congressman, and educators from across Prince William County. Speaking for Dumfries Elementary School colleagues, reading teacher Marcia Brugger called Covington “the heart” of the school."

Local middle school students will be in the spotlight as they join the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra (OBCO) in the first ever side-by-side concert on Nov. 5 at Hylton High School.

The Special Education Department services students in numerous areas including Autism, Deafness, Blindness, Developmental Delays, Emotional Disability, Hearing Impaired and Intellectual Disability as well as Specific Learning Disability, Orthopedic, Speech and Language Impairments.

A series of three evening workshops for parents, educators, and community members will provide information on the special education process. The sessions, Oct. 15, 22 & 29, will be held from 7-9 p.m. in room 1101 A/B at the Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas. PWCS Office of Special Education staff will present.

Fauquier County Public Schools will participate in an earthquake drill on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 10:15 a.m. The drill is part of the fourth annual Great SouthEast ShakeOut, a multi-state simultaneous earthquake drill in which participants practice the recommended action to take during an actual earthquake.
