Manassas School Board has joined with 50+ school boards across Virginia in opposing legislation passed by the 2013 General Assembly, which forms a new state school division to take control of failing public schools throughout the Commonwealth and the money the local division receives for the school.

The next Neighborhood Leaders Group free informational workshop open to the public is on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in Woodbridge. Understanding common neighborhood property code violations will be discussed.

William Patrick Pate of High Point, N.C. will begin his new job as city manager for Manassas on Oct. 28. He has been assistant city manager of the City of High Point, N.C., since 1999.

The 11-week Citizens Police Academy will begin on Sept. 18 in the City of Manassas Park. Through a series of lectures, field trips, and simulated activities, citizens will receive training similar to that of an actual police officer.
