Manassas School Board has joined with 50+ school boards across Virginia in opposing legislation passed by the 2013 General Assembly, which forms a new state school division to take control of failing public schools throughout the Commonwealth and the money the local division receives for the school.

On September 12, at 6:30 p.m., Supervisor Pete Candland, Haymarket Mayor David Leake and Delegate Bob Marshall to open a time capsule placed in the cornerstone of the Haymarket Fire Department in 1946. The contents are a mystery. An official from the county's Department of Historic Resources will also attend.

William Patrick Pate of High Point, N.C. will begin his new job as city manager for Manassas on Oct. 28. He has been assistant city manager of the City of High Point, N.C., since 1999.
