Western PWC Del. Lovejoy to file five anti-data center bills

Western Prince William Delegate Ian Lovejoy (R-22) has issued a news release saying he will submit five unique pieces of legislation aimed at mitigating growing data center impacts, particularly in Prince William County.

Save Our Homes Alliance to address Manassas City Council on housing issues Nov. 28

On Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, Save Our Homes Alliance will address the Manassas City Council about concerns over the eviction of 40+ families from the East End Mobile Home Park. The Alliance is comprised of East End homeowners, Manassas residents and supporters countywide. The Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm with citizens time at 7:30 pm.

Prince William County Human Rights Commission is looking for nominees for its Human Rights Awards by Nov. 23. The county gives the awards annually to Prince William County individuals, non-profit organizations and businesses for their outstanding accomplishments toward human rights.

From volunteer to treasurer, from card system to computer, Robin Perkins has enjoyed her 35+ years

More than 35 years ago, Robin Perkins, retiring Treasurer of the City of Manassas, began volunteering in the Treasurer’s Office a couple of days a week. When she began her career with the City, tax records were kept on a binary card system. Years later, with the advent of personal computers, Robin was the first City Treasurer to create the original tax database for City residents.

Quantico family displaced by fire in kitchen

On Sunday, Nov. 13, at 7:58 p.m., fire and rescue crews were dispatched to an appliance fire in a single family home located in the 200 block of Third Avenue in Quantico. Upon entry, fire and rescue crews discovered the fire had extended to the kitchen cabinets and immediately upgraded the incident to a structure fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Prince William County Landfill and Balls Ford Road Yard Waste Facility will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

Fauquier residents encouraged to complete survey on middle school modernization

A survey is now underway regarding middle school modernization in Fauquier County, specifically how to renovate and/or replace Taylor and Warrenton Middle Schools. County planning commission to consider land use changes for a church parking lot and a Taco Bell eatery with drive-in (rezoning & Special Use Permit) and changes to the Design and Construction Standards Manual to "solve/correct design and construction issues, omissions, errors and inconsistencies" in fire safety and transportation areas
