Western PWC Del. Lovejoy to file five anti-data center bills

Western Prince William Delegate Ian Lovejoy (R-22) has issued a news release saying he will submit five unique pieces of legislation aimed at mitigating growing data center impacts, particularly in Prince William County.

PWC Supervisors expected to consider enlarging county area where chickens and fowl are allowed

Prince William County Board of County Supervisors is scheduled to consider initiating a zoning text amendment during Supervisors Time on the evening of July 17 to consider whether chickens and fowl can be kept in areas beyond current limits, by right in agricultural areas, and by special use permit in semi-rural residential areas. The proposal was suggested by Coles Supervisor Marty Nohe.

Bugler Donna Flory named Prince William County’s Volunteer of the Quarter

Desiree Wolfe, of the Prince William County Office of Executive Management, nominated Donna Flory as PWC Volunteer of the Quarter. The presentation reads in part, “Over the last two decades, Donna has played in various ceremonies and dedications in honor of Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day and 9/11.  Her rendition of ‘Taps’ continues to bring dignity and meaning to these very important events."

Additional legal counsel brings 25 years experience in education law to PWC schools

Carol Marchant, an education law attorney currently serving as assistant division counsel for Fairfax County Public Schools, will join the PWCS Office of Division Counsel as the assistant division counsel beginning July 1. Marchant has worked in private practice and public schools as an education law attorney for 25 years.

Ceremony celebrates Prince William County’s new Charlie T. Deane Police Station ​

During the June 19 ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Central District Police Station, Corey Stewart, Chairman of the Board of County Supervisors, told the story of the first time he and retired Prince William Police Chief Charlie T. Deane toured the new station.

PW SPCA offers $45 spay-neuter-adoption of cats thru June 30 to ease shelter overcrowding

Want to adopt a cat? Through June 30th, PWSPCA is offering a $45 fee to adopt any cat which includes a rabies vaccine, microchip, distemper combo vaccine and spay/neuter surgery (cats 1+ year). Cats are available at the Prince William County Animal Shelter (14807 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA 20112) during normal hours of operation and on the Prince William SPCA's P.A.W. Express mobile adoption van on Saturday, June 23.

More people riding commuter and express buses in Interstate 66 corridor, new report shows

Commuter and express bus routes in the Interstate 66 corridor are showing significant increases in ridership due to tolling and new service funded by the I-66 Commuter Choice program, according to a new report released June 18 by the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC). Bus travel times are more reliable too, the report said.

City of Manassas Planning Commission will lead a Comprehensive Plan update Kickoff Session & Community Conversation on Land Use on Tuesday, June 19 at 7 PM, at the Boys and Girls Club, 9501 Dean Park Lane. The public is invited to attend this session and the others to follow.
