On Wednesday, Nov.20, 2024, at 10 a.m., Fairfax Water will conduct its annual test of the Occoquan Dam Siren warning system.

Open Space Arts looking for art inspired by women authors; deadline is Feb. 14

The OSA Steering Committee is looking for local artists who have been inspired by a woman author's literary work and how the entrant used the author's words as the influence for his or her creative work. Photography works for this project are also welcomed.

Marine trash collection system wins award for PWC Department of Public Works

Micron Corporation, PWC Public Works and PWC Parks are sharing the American Public Works Association spotlight for a watershed restoration project along Neabsco Creek. Micron put up the funds to purchase and install an in-creek trash collection system known as a Bandalong. “Marine debris and trash in our waterways have been a growing environmental issue. People are looking for solutions other than volunteer cleanups,” PWC Environmental Specialist Tim Hughes said. “It’s much safer and easier. All the trash gets collected in the Bandalong.”

Prince William County to acquire Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas to advance police training

Prince William Board of County Supervisors has approved a contract to acquire Elite Shooting Sports, at 7751 Doane Drive in Manassas to expand training for the PWC Police Department. The owner of the current facility is seeking to retire and signed the contract with the County for purchase, estimated at $22 million, about $6 million less than the estimated cost of a new facility.

PWC to earmark $2.7 million for help with rent through Human Services Alliance of Greater PW

Prince William County government will partner with the Human Services Alliance of Greater Prince William to allocate $2.7 million of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for area housing rental assistance.
