Could Virginia become a “swing state” in the upcoming presidential election?

Stephen J. Farnsworth, longtime professor of political science at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, who is also director of UMW’s Center for Leadership and Media Studies (C4L&MS), says “Virginia may deserve to be treated as a ‘swing state’ once again this year.” Farnsworth's remarks came after a new statewide survey from the Center said Vice President Kamala Harris (D) and former President Donald Trump (R) are locked in a tight presidential contest in Virginia.

Donald Trump is first candidate to submit petitions for March 1, 2016 GOP primary

Donald Trump has submitted petitions with 15,000 signatures to secure placement on the March 1, 2016 ballot for the republican primary in Virginia, according to the Republican Party of Virginia. He is the first candidate to file, the RPV said.

Absentee ballot application now online for Virginia

At 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 14, the Virginia Department of Elections (ELECT) launched its new Citizen Portal. This will allow Virginia voters to apply for an absentee ballot online. The secure online system will take voters through the application process step by step and allow users to sign the application using their Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) credentials, building on the success of ELECT’s online voter registration system.

ELECTION 2015: Supervisor chairman candidates to face off Oct. 1; community invited

The community is invited to hear business and education views of the candidates for chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. The debate is sponsored by Northern Virginia Community College and Prince William Chamber of Commerce. It will be in Howsman Hall on NOVA's Manassas campus.
