Western Prince William Delegate Ian Lovejoy (R-22) has issued a news release saying he will submit five unique pieces of legislation aimed at mitigating growing data center impacts, particularly in Prince William County.

Satterwhite sets town meeting on school budget

School Board Vice Chairman Alyson A. Satterwhite (Gainesville), will hold a town meeting on Thursday, March 5 beginning at 7 p.m. in the library of the new Haymarket Elementary School, to discuss the FY 2016 budget and Capital Improvements Program.

Free local tax help for those earning less than $53,000

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) is a national program that offers people who earned less than $53,000 in 2014 a good way to get their tax returns done for free. Tax experts will be at the Dr. A J. Ferlazzo Building, at 15741 Donald Curtis Drive in Woodbridge, on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., from now until April 11, to help people with their taxes.

Prince William School Superintendent’s budget proposal rescheduled from Feb. 4 to Feb. 18

Prince William County School Board will hear the Superintendent’s proposed budget for 2015-16 on February 18 instead of two weeks earlier, as previously scheduled. Presentation of the proposed 2016-25 Capital Improvements Program will also be pushed back. The delays follow the cancellation of the January 21 School Board Meeting because of weather conditions.

Social Security to extend field office hours four days a week nationwide

Social Security announces as a result of Congress’ approval of the fiscal year 2015 budget, the agency will expand its hours nationwide and offices will be open to the public for an additional hour on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, beginning March 16.

Move falls flat to defund buried power lines on US 1 in Woodbridge

The effort to kill the $12.1-million appropriation needed to bury power lines along US 1 in Woodbridge came to a halt Jan. 13 when Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted it down at a public hearing in McCoart Government Center.
