Western PWC Del. Lovejoy to file five anti-data center bills

Western Prince William Delegate Ian Lovejoy (R-22) has issued a news release saying he will submit five unique pieces of legislation aimed at mitigating growing data center impacts, particularly in Prince William County.

Scams continue, Dominion Va. Power says; customers should be alert

Dominion Virginia Power reminds customers to be on the lookout for scammers who threaten to disconnect electrical service immediately if payment is not made. Dominion does not take payment over the phone and never asks for immediate payment of cash, PayPal, ‘MoneyPak/Green Dot’ or any prepaid debit card as a prerequisite to keeping lights on.

Wittman and Kind are “going to the birds”

Rep. Rob Wittman, who represents part of Prince William County, and Rep. Ron Kind, from Wisconsin, introduced the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act, which funds habitat protection, education, researching, and monitoring to provide long-term protection of neotropical migratory birds.

Manassas Museum changes policies; entry free starting July 1

Beginning July 1, 2015, admission to the Manassas Museum is free. The Manassas Historic Resources Board, which oversees the Museum’s operations, originated the idea in an effort to allow residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy history for free. City Council approved the measure as well.

Virginia Department of Education will pilot a full-time virtual high school

Virginia Department of Education’s Virtual Virginia program will pilot a full-time, online high school for the 2015-2016 school year. The pilot will offer all required core academic courses and electives necessary to earn a Standard or Advanced Studies diploma.

The Internal Revenue Service reminds all taxpayers with an FBAR filing requirement to report their foreign assets by the June 30 deadline.

July 6 service change and fare increase for PRTC commuter buses

Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC), the public transportation provider for Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, will implement bus service changes and increase fares on July 6, 2015. Service changes are in eastern Prince William.

More classes start June 29 at Northern Virginia Community College

There’s still time to earn college credits this summer. Northern Virginia Community College offers a six-week summer session that starts June 29 and ends Aug. 9. Students must register by 11:59 p.m. June 28.
