A $23,000 grant recently awarded to Prince William County Public Schools will support a program to teach 150-200 students across the county how their local, state, and federal governments work, give them an understanding of how to change public policy, and provide hands-on experience researching and debating current issues in the community.

Governor Terry McAuliffe says he will seek a total of $1,074,000 in his proposed biennial budget in order to meet unmet demand and move the Commonwealth closer to ending childhood hunger. This is up from $537,000 for 244 schools in the last budget.

With the clock ticking on the federal government’s fiscal calendar, Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA) and Congressman Rob Wittman (R-VA) are preparing legislation to protect federal employees from a government shutdown. The Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act would guarantee back pay for all furloughed workers in the event of a shutdown.
