Time to pay Prince William County property taxes; deadline is Dec. 5

Taxpayers are encouraged to pay their taxes before the Dec. 5 due date. A late payment penalty of 10 percent will apply to any unpaid tax balance after the Dec. 5 deadline. Additionally, interest will accrue monthly on unpaid balances at a rate of 10 percent per annum until they are fully paid.

US Senate reauthorizes FAA through 2017; several key measures added

USDA program offers student loan aid to veterinarians

Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) announced that the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) is accepting applications until May 20 for loan repayment grants for veterinarians willing to serve in parts of Virginia with moderate to critical shortages of food animal vets. Several rural counties in Virginia lack adequate access to veterinary services for food supply animals.

William Kennard now deputy, law judge for Workers’ Comp Commission in Manassas, Fairfax

Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission reports that William T. Kennard is now Deputy Commissioner at its regional office in Manassas. Kennard also will serve as an administrative law judge for evidentiary and on-the-record hearings under the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act. He will hold hearing dockets in Fairfax and Manassas.

Va. governor signs legislation enhancing protections for victims of sexual assault

Governor Terry McAuliffe signed Senate Bill 291 and House Bill 1160, which establish procedures for handling evidence kits in sexual assaults.
