Simplified rules for Virginia distilleries at festivals and delivery of closed containers of alcohol to customer’s vehicles are two of several business-friendly legislative proposals affecting Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) passed by the 2017 General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Terry McAuliffe.

State Senator Jeremy McPike recently installed officers of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce for 2017-18. Jim Elliott of First Virginia Community Bank will serve as chairman of the board.

Apple Federal Credit Union (FCU) recently announced that Larry Kelly, president and chief executive officer, will retire at the end of June. Andrew (Andy) C. Grimm, Apple FCU’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, will succeed Kelly July 1, 2017. The Apple FCU Board of Directors reached its decision after a nationwide search, a news release said.

Intermittent full closures will occur along Old Centreville Road in Manassas on the bridge over Bull Run the nights of Monday, June 26 through Friday, June 30 between midnight and 4 a.m. each night in order to remove bridge beams, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. Each stoppage will last up to 15 minutes. Drivers should expect delays and use alternate routes.

Calling it an economic development opportunity not to be missed, the Board of Directors of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce June 27 unanimously voted to endorse the proposed Potomac Nationals stadium in eastern Prince William County.

On June 7, 2017, the Prince William County School Board approved, among other actions, purchase of 92.4 acres of land at University Boulevard for the proposed 13th high school; and reclassification of school nurses by moving them from the classified scale to the teacher's salary scale commensurate with how teachers are placed on the scale.

Virginia farmers have an incentive to donate excess product to nonprofit food banks due to the Food Crop Donation Tax Credit. Approved by the Virginia General Assembly during the 2016 Session, farmers who donate edible food crops to a nonprofit food bank can receive up to a 30 percent tax credit for their donation.
