Time to pay Prince William County property taxes; deadline is Dec. 5

Taxpayers are encouraged to pay their taxes before the Dec. 5 due date. A late payment penalty of 10 percent will apply to any unpaid tax balance after the Dec. 5 deadline. Additionally, interest will accrue monthly on unpaid balances at a rate of 10 percent per annum until they are fully paid.

Home under construction burglarized in Haymarket; siding reported missing

On May 11, 2020 at 12:40PM, Prince William County police officers responded to a residence located in the 15100 block of Haymarket Landings Dr. in Haymarket (20169) to investigate a burglary.

Uber driver reports 2 a.m. robbery at gunpoint in Dale City, hails off-duty police officer

On April 28, 2020 at 2:51AM, Prince William County police officers responded to the intersection of Dale Blvd. and Benita Fitzgerald Dr. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a robbery. The victim, a 55-year-old man, was working as a driver for Uber when he was reportedly robbed by an unknown male passenger.

The victim reported to police that she was walking in the above area when she was approached from behind by an unknown man wearing a mask. When the victim turned around, the suspect brandished a firearm and demanded her purse.

NOVEC suspends service disconnections due to COVID-19

In response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the financial hardships the illness is causing, Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) is suspending electric service disconnections for nonpayment for 60 days, effective March 16, 2020. The suspension delays, but does not cancel, payment of outstanding balances.

Applications for NOVEC scholarships due March 15

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative and the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives are offering higher-education scholarships to public, private, and home-schooled high school seniors whose families receive electricity from electric cooperatives. Online applications at novec.com for NOVEC's scholarships are due Sunday, March 15, 2020. VMDAEC applications are due Friday, Feb. 28, 2020. Students may apply to both organizations.
