Western PWC Del. Lovejoy to file five anti-data center bills

Western Prince William Delegate Ian Lovejoy (R-22) has issued a news release saying he will submit five unique pieces of legislation aimed at mitigating growing data center impacts, particularly in Prince William County.

CDC temporarily bans importing dogs from most countries at high risk for canine rabies

The agency cited a 52 per cent increase in irregularities with rabies vaccination certificates for canine imports in 2020 compared to 2018 and 2019, and stated the measure is being taken “to ensure the health and safety of dogs imported into the United States and to protect the public’s health against the reintroduction of dog rabies.”

Va. State Police warn of phone scams aimed at registered sex offenders

Virginia State Police report they have been alerted to an alarming increase in phone scams targeting convicted sex offenders. The consistent theme among these scams has been phone fraudsters portraying themselves as a Virginia State Police sergeant and threatening the individuals into paying hundreds of dollars in gift cards to the caller, Va. State Police said.

The high cost of not wearing a seatbelt while driving or riding

Prince William County Police are running the annual safety "Click It or (get a) Ticket Seatbelt Campaign" through Sunday, June 6. It is the driver’s responsibility to make sure all children, age 15 and under, are secured properly. Virginia law allows police to cite anyone driving a car in which an occupant under age 16 is not wearing a safety belt or is not in a child safety seat. It also provides that drivers may be cited if they are not properly restrained if stopped for other violations.

Money and firearm reported missing in Triangle burglary

A resident of an apartment reported to police that the burglary occurred sometime between 5:00PM and 5:33PM. The investigation revealed that entry was made into the apartment through the unsecured front door.

Virginia’s Individual Income Tax filing and payment deadline for 2020 is Monday, May 17

Virginia Tax is reminding taxpayers in Virginia, if you haven’t yet filed your individual income taxes, the filing and payment deadline is just days away. You have until Monday, May 17, 2021, to submit your return. Taxpayers are encouraged to file electronically because, state tax officials say, COVID-19 protocols may delay paper return processing.
