National Park Service (NPS) reports that it is developing a Comprehensive Trail Plan for Prince William Forest Park to provide guidance for enhancing the park’s trail system and visitor experience in a manner sympathetic with the natural and cultural surroundings and balances overall resource protection with intended trail uses and long-term management.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors has announced that the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Mid-Atlantic Section will be building its new headquarters and state-of-the-art tennis facility in Prince William County on 46 acres at Innovation Park.

The Underground Railroad Network to Freedom at Leesylvania State Park will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in February. The property that became Leesylvania State Park had a part to play with the flight of two runaway slaves, as well as a slave who escaped captivity in 1848.

Work to replace the 23-year-old children's pool at Andrew Leitch Park with a new children’s water park is continuing, according to a county government report on Jan. 19. A Memorial Day weekend opening is planned for the new facility that will include such features as Misty Mountain, Sneaky Soaker, Bloomin’ Soaker, Geyser, Solo Spurt, Gusher, Funbrella and Bubble Trouble.

Virginia State Parks Director Craig Seaver was quoted as saying in a news release, “The weather will be great, state parks will look beautiful, and it will be a wonderful time for people to focus on what’s really important – family, health and making memories that last a lifetime.”

Brentsville Supervisor Jeanine Lawson's office will host a community meeting Dec. 4 at Patriot High School at 7 p.m. on future design for Rollins Ford Park.

Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently approved a lease agreement with Family Off-Road Riders of Prince William County, or FORPWC. and a special use permit to allow off-road vehicles at 25-acre Lehigh Portland Park, at 13865 Nokesville Road, in Nokesville. The organization will lease the 25-acre county-owned park and will finance, clear, build and operate an off-road vehicle riding track on 14 acres of the park.

The National Park Service (NPS) is actively working to remove paint that was poured and sprayed on the General Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson monument at Manassas National Battlefield Park. The vandalism happened overnight and was discovered at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4.
