Mattie Quesenberry Smith, VMI writing instructor, chosen Virginia’s Poet Laureate

Smith has served as a First Year Writing and Rhetoric Instructor at the Virginia Military Institute since 2013, teaching courses in rhetoric and writing. She is a published poet and has received numerous awards for her work.

Out of an abundance of caution Hylton Performing Arts Center is canceling or postponing all gatherings through May 1 and George Mason University reports all performances on its Fairfax Center for the Arts are cancelled. through April 30.

Service Authority changes presentation format for water art contest winners

Prince William County Service Authority is revising the format for this year’s Water Art Invitational awards announcement. Rather than hosting the awards ceremony at the Spittle Building on Thursday, March 12, the Service Authority will announce this year’s Water Art Invitational winners via a video, a news release and in-classroom presentations.

Non-stop art in many forms during One Love Manassas April 26-28

The City of Manassas and Historic Manassas, Inc. will host One Love Manassas April 26-28 This multi-media art event will feature live music, a juried art competition, a film showcase, Chasing Light - a 3D music and light interactive experience. The weekend is designed to give artists a platform to perform, share and leverage their art. It is a celebration of life with the arts.

WSHS honors former principal Dr. Thomas Gaul and school’s notable theatre program

Woodbridge High School has a long history and thousands of alumni. To honor both, the school created an Alumni and History Wall to represent students, staff, faculty, and programs. Annually, Woodbridge hosts an alumni event to add the newest images to the wall. This year the school honored one of its former principals and the theatre program.
