Mattie Quesenberry Smith, VMI writing instructor, chosen Virginia’s Poet Laureate

Smith has served as a First Year Writing and Rhetoric Instructor at the Virginia Military Institute since 2013, teaching courses in rhetoric and writing. She is a published poet and has received numerous awards for her work.

Jacquemin Family Foundation makes $1 million pledge to support Hylton Center

John Jacquemin and his wife, Tracie Jacquemin, have made a $1 million five-year pledge from the Jacquemin Family Foundation to support the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s building fund and the center’s permanent endowment in Prince William County.

Piedmont Regional Art Show to be held Oct. 22-24 in The Plains for 73rd year

The show is a fundraiser for the church and as a showcase for area artists to exhibit their work. There is a Friday night gala on Oct. 22 (admission $15 per person, free to artists and sponsors) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The show is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24 to view the entries. Admission is free. Proof of a COVID vaccination or negative PCR test within 72 hours is required of those attending the show or gala.
