National Park Service plans prescribed fire at Wolf Trap April 6 if weather permits

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts is preparing for a small prescribed fire today April 6, from 10:30 a.m. to at least 1:30 p.m., weather permitting. The planned fire will be adjacent to the parking lots at the Native Meadow with the goal to maintain wildlife habitat, soil nutrition replenishment and controlling woody and invasive species.

Controlled burn April 3-13 at Manassas National Battlefield Park

Manassas National Battlefield Park (MNBP) will conduct a scheduled burn between April 3-13. According to the MNBP Superintendent, the planned fire will be adjacent to the eastern edge of the Brawner Farm area and will cover up to 45 acres of open fields and scrub.

U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) joined Democratic colleagues on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee to call on Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) to hold a HELP hearing as soon as possible to examine the causes and remedies for school shootings and other mass shootings. Kaine and his Democratic colleagues believe gun violence is a public health crisis, putting it in the purview of their committee that covers health.
