Manassas National Battlefield Park will implement a previously approved white-tailed deer population reduction at the park Jan. 2-March 15, 2019. Extensive damage from deer has adversely impacted the park’s historic landscape, has reduced habitat for other creatures and has prevented forest regeneration, according to a news release the National Park Service.

U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) secured unanimous Senate passage of the Ashanti Alert Act, legislation that will create a new federal alert system for missing or endangered adults between the ages of 18-64. Currently, the U.S. does not have an alert system for missing adults.

Governor Ralph Northam today, Oct. 29, attended the grand opening for the new Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) office at the Pentagon in Arlington. The space was secured earlier this year and construction of the office was recently completed.

Due to sustained high, fast water in the Potomac River, the National Park Service says, in a news release, that construction crews were not able to complete all of the work that was originally scheduled for Arlington Memorial Bridge Sept. 22-23. Completing the work will require additional temporary, total closures, the release stated.
