Social Security offices nationwide to start being open every weekday 9-4

Starting on January 8, 2020, Social Security offices nationwide will be open to the public on Wednesday afternoons, Andrew Saul, Commissioner of Social Security, announced. This change restores Wednesday public service hours that were last in place in late 2012.

National Park Service to oversee “prescribed” fire at Manassas Battlefield Park near Brawner Farm

Manassas National Battlefield Park is preparing for a prescribed fire today, Nov. 18 through Nov. Friday, 22 on about 75 acres near the Brawner Farm (north of US-29 between Pageland and Featherbed Lanes). This window could be extended depending upon weather conditions, according to the National Park Service.

Arlington Memorial Bridge closing postponed to Nov. 15-19

The National Park Service (NPS) has postponed the previously announced weekend closing of Arlington Memorial Bridge. The closing is now scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 and will last until 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 18.

Census workers going door to door in some PWC areas gathering address information

Prince William County Demographer Brian Engelmann has announced that workers from the US Census Bureau will be in the field doing some preliminary work through the middle of October. The canvassers need to go out to specific neighborhoods to verify the addresses that can’t be determined by using GIS maps, Engelmann said. “The canvassers will ask a few questions to verify the address and inquire about any additional living quarters on the property for inclusion in the Census process.”

National parks to honor four-century history and influence of African Americans Aug. 25

Guest speakers, local historians and Prince William Forest Park staff will discuss the history and influence of African Americans in the local community at 2:30 p.m Aug. 25 at Prince William Forest Park visitor center. The park will participate in the ringing of the bells at 3 p.m. Remarks will follow.
