Feds to invest nearly $2 million in jobs training for 210 former coal workers in Virginia

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Jan. 8 that the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) has received a $1,965,730 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help provide reemployment services to about 210 former coal industry workers in southwest Virginia, according to a news release.

Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park among localities participating in pesticide removal

Through the 2015 Pesticide Disposal Program 62,261 pounds of unwanted pesticides were removed in Virginia localities including Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park. Participants included agricultural producers, licensed pesticide dealers and pest control firms, golf course operators and homeowners.

VCU inks MOU with University of Havana

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today, Jan. 4, that Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Havana. The MOU will allow both institutions to work together to develop cooperative programs in a variety of academic disciplines studied at both institutions.

SCC sets April 28 hearing on power line from Remington to Gordonsville

State Corporation Commission (SCC) will hold a public hearing in Orange in April on an application by Dominion Virginia Power to build a new 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line between the company’s Remington substation in Fauquier County and the Gordonsville substation in Albemarle County.

Virginia officials on marketing mission to Cuba Jan. 3-6

Governor Terry McAuliffe will lead a historic marketing and collaboration mission to Cuba from January 3-6, 2016. The Governor will be accompanied by First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe and a number of state officials.

Virginia supplemental sex offender registry now online

In accordance with new state legislation, the Virginia State Police has completed and posted online the Supplement to the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry (SOR) in time for the Jan. 1, 2016, deadline, a VSP news release stated.

Rob Wittman and Rich Anderson to appear on John Fredericks radio show Dec. 30

Virginia Congressman Rob Wittman (R-VA-1), whose district includes part of Prince William County, will be the guest host of the Dec. 30 John Fredericks Morning Radio Show. This will be Wittman's fifth guest hosting appearance. Among his guests will be Del. Richard Anderson (R) of Woodbridge.

Supv. Candland urges residents to speak at SCC hearings on power line proposal

Supervisor Candland strongly encourage residents to attend at least one of the five State Corporation Commission hearings in Haymarket Feb. 24 and March 14 and in Richmond May 10 to provide comments on Dominion Power's proposed project.
