All lanes of southbound Interstate 95 have re-opened after an emergency bridge deck repair near Exit 133/Route 17 in Stafford County. Crews temporarily repaired a hole in the right travel lane by covering it with secured steel plates.

When the weather warms up, mosquitoes will get more active very quickly, so it’s time for horse owners to think about vaccinating their horses against mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). The presence of an infected horse in the area indicates that mosquitoes carrying the EEE or WNV viruses are present, and those insects pose a threat to humans and horses. Therefore, in addition to vaccination, everyone needs to think about mosquito control to keep down populations.

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced May 23 that producers of the upcoming political thriller Public Affairs have selected Norfolk, Virginia as their filming location. The project will star Adrian Grenier (Entourage) and Mimi Rogers (Hope Springs), and will be directed by Sundance alum and DGA-award winner Eric Bross (Restaurant). The film was written by Tom Cudworth (Restaurant).

The program was singled out for outstanding conservation impact among the 80 similar programs that comprise an international conservation network across the United States, Canada and Latin America. In addition, the program’s 25-year director, Tom Smith, was presented with NatureServe’s first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board has awarded a contract worth approximately $31.1 million to Branch Highways Inc., of Roanoke to design and construct a reversible extension of 95 Express Lanes at the southern terminus in Stafford County.
