Gov. Ralph Northam today, Sept. 25, announced the 2018–2019 Governor’s High School Voter Registration Challenge, in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Elections, Inspire U.S., and the League of Women Voters of Virginia. It goes through May 20, 2019.

Career Success Stars in CTE is a new Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) initiative that features former students from schools around Virginia who have used the academic and technical skills and knowledge earned through Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs to achieve success in one of 16 CTE-related career fields. SJHS graduate Valeria Lora, who owns her own salon, has been named a 2019 VDOE "Career Success Star."

September is Food Safety Education Month and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services encourages everyone to follow four safety guidelines to prevent food borne illnesses. Those guideline are 1. cleanliness, 2. thorough cooking, 3. proper temperature control and 4. separating raw and cooked foods to prevent cross-contamination.
