Volunteers needed to plant Hill of Heroes at Virginia War Memorial in Richmond on June 28

On Saturday, June 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the nonprofit Virginia War Memorial Foundation and corporate sponsor Altria will host the Hill of Heroes Day at The Memorial. This free family event and community celebration will feature military vehicles and demonstrations, crafts and educational activities for kids, and the annual used book sale.

Dominion to host June 18 & June 20 meetings on plans to rebuild and upgrade transmission lines

The plan is to rebuild the electric transmission lines that run between Dominion's Possum Point Substation in Dumfries and its Fredericksburg Substation because the lines "are at the end of their service life." At the same time, Dominion plans to upgrade the lines - from 115 kilovolts (kV) to 230 kV.

2024 was worst spring forest fire season in 30 years: 411 wildfires burned almost 20.000 acres

Spring fires damaged 29 homes and 28 structures, with DOF suppression efforts credited with protecting an additional 750 homes and 400 structures. Wildfire activity peaked on March 20, when especially low relative humidity combined with gusty winds to spark 88 wildfires in less than 24 hours. DOF responded to 411 wildfires that burned nearly 20,000 acres, the most burned during a spring fire season in the last 30 years. For comparison, during the 2023 spring fire season, 330 wildfires burned 2,174 acres.

Meadow Event Park’s economic impact substantial, according to study

According to a news release from Virginia Farm Bureau, the property located in Caroline County north of Richmond had strong economic impact, hosting more than 536,000 visitors at 182 diverse events last year, bringing in substantial revenue, supporting many jobs and paying more than $1 million in taxes.
