Virginia to actively monitor travelers from Ebola outbreak countries

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced that starting today, Monday, October 27, the Virginia Department of Health will actively monitor the health of all travelers arriving from the countries of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, which are battling an unprecedented Ebola outbreak. This effort will build on extensive outreach and monitoring already underway by the state health department and the local health districts.

Almost $100 million in investment and 313 new jobs for Virginia this week

Governor Terry McAuliffe is on an extended trade mission to southeast Asia until Oct. 29. Meanwhile his office is busy announcing that four companies so far this week are planning expansions which will create 313 new jobs and invest $90.6 million in business operations. The companies are already doing business in Botetourt, Carroll and Charlotte counties and the city of Virginia Beach.

Free Saturday bus service to continue until official opening of I-95/I-395 express lanes

On-going construction of the I-95/I-395 Express Lanes has prompted Virginia Megaprojects to continue fully funding a free Saturday bus service between eastern Prince William County and the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station until the new lanes officially open.

Business Development Caucus begins drafting legislation for 2015 session

Members of The General Assembly’s Business Development Caucus (BDC) met at the Capitol on Monday to review 70+ recommendations from 165 Virginia businesses for the 2015 legislative session. By the end of the day they had narrowed their focus to 17.

Sunday hunting not permitted on state forests, only on private property in Va.

“While a new law allowing hunting in Virginia on Sundays went into effect July 1st, that law applies only to private lands,” said Gary Heiser, manager of Virginia’s 24 State Forests. “Hunting on Sunday is still prohibited on public lands, including the State Forests.”
