VDOT road crews are mobilizing for major storm

Today, Monday, Feb. 16, Virginia Department of Transportation crews are aggressively pre-treating roads throughout Prince William, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Arlington counties in advance of tonight’s heavy snow. By 4 p.m. more than 3,800 trucks will be staged along interstates, major roads and neighborhood streets, according to a news release from VDOT. Motorists urged to stay off roads while crews work, the release said.

Governor says VDOT ready to deal with Monday’s big snow

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced tonight that Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are prepared and ready for a statewide winter storm that is expected to bring significant snow fall across Virginia beginning Monday morning. Up to a foot of snow is expected in the far western region of the state and four to nine inches of snow across the rest of the state.

Due to high winds in tonight's forecast, the gantry work scheduled tonight between Rt. 123 and Nutley Street on INterstate 66 has been RESCHEDULED to tomorrow night (Friday, Feb. 6) with intermittent closures of up to 30 minutes between midnight and 5 a.m. All lanes of eastbound Interstate 66 will close intermittently between midnight and 5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 and Thursday, Feb. 5 for the installation of gantries. Each closure will last up to 30 minutes, according to a news alert from Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

Virginia’s Lt. Gov. Northam casts his first tiebreaking vote

Today, Feb. 3, Lieutenant Governor Northam cast his first tie-breaking vote of the 2015 Virginia General Assembly in support of SB 785. His vote broke a 19-19 tie on the measure, which prohibits state agencies from discriminating in employment on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
