Gainesville supervisor Pete Candland said at approximately 9:30 a.m. he has been notified by Virginia Department of Transportation that a vehicle caught fire on Interstate 66, underneath the Route 15 overpass this morning, July 18.

All I-66 lanes in Gainesvlle between US 29 and US 15 will be closed up to 20 minutes at a time for work on Catharpin Road overpass. Lanes will reopen completely at 5 a.m.

Work could start as early as 2017 on a "FASTLANE" project that could considerably ease congestion in the I-95 corridor in Northern Virginia.
