On Aug. 21, investigators with the Prince William County Police Department's Crash Investigation Unit charged the juvenile driver in connection to the crash that occurred in the area of Rollins Ford Rd and Estate Manor Dr in Bristow on July 24.

School bus safety reminders for motorists; first day of school is Monday, Aug. 27

Motorists are reminded to obey flashing yellow lights in school zones. School zone lights were turned off at most schools in the county during the summer but will be back on Aug. 27 when school opens for the 2018-19 school year. By law, motorists must stop when a school bus is stopped with its red lights blinking and stop sign extended, except when the bus is on the opposite side of a median strip.

Protection rules for kindergarten students who ride PWC school buses

Kindergarten students must be accompanied to and from bus stops by a parent, guardian, or other designated individual, according to a Prince William County Schools news release, and all kindergarten parents/guardians must complete a Kindergarten Authorization Form, and return the completed form to their child's school.

Updated Prince William school bus schedules coming Aug. 22

Prince William County Schools Transportation Office reports it is continuing "to refine its bus routes and schedules to ensure the best use of drivers and vehicles to provide predictable, on-time performance" and that some updated bus scheduled will be coming tomorrow, wednesday, Aug. 22.

Virginia to step up traffic patrols in major effort to combat drunk driving

Partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement mobilization, approximately 89 law enforcement agencies—including local and Virginia State Police—will operate 94 checkpoints and 612 saturation patrols Aug. 17-Sept. 3.

VDOT Traffic Alert: Ashton Ave. in Manassas to be closed at night Aug. 15 and Aug. 16

Ashton Avenue between Crestwood Drive and Lomond Drive in Manassas will be closed to through traffic Wednesday night, Aug. 15 and Thursday night, Aug. 16 from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning. The closing is for Prince William County Service Authority water main work, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

More transportation funding for Prince William County

Prince William County recently got word that it will be receiving $244 million from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, or NVTA, for transportation projects over the next six years.
