Western PWC Del. Lovejoy to file five anti-data center bills

Western Prince William Delegate Ian Lovejoy (R-22) has issued a news release saying he will submit five unique pieces of legislation aimed at mitigating growing data center impacts, particularly in Prince William County.

FOTO counted 255 volunteers who aided the Occoquan River cleanup effort at 5 sites April 18

A total of 154 large bags of trash and 16 bags of recyclables were collected during FOTO's spring Occoquan cleanup at five sites along the river. The volunteers picked up 8 tires, several pieces of lumber boards, 4x4 and 2x4’s, a wooden cross and other building materials.

Virginia governor invites residents to “make a difference” during Earth Week

All 36 Virginia State Parks will offer special programming or volunteer projects related to preserving the environment, recycling, upcycling, developing natural habitats or beautifying parks. Other projects include habitat creation for the threatened Monarch Butterfly, weeding, trail maintenance and plantings.

Watch out for whales in Atlantic off Virginia coast

NOAA is reminding owners and operators of recreational yachts and other recreational vessels to slow down in Right Whale Seasonal Management Areas along the Atlantic coast. In April, right whales migrate from their calving grounds off the coasts of Florida and Georgia to feeding areas in the Gulf of Maine and north Atlantic. Researchers have documented 17 right whale calves born this season and two first time mothers.

Dale City water system to be flushed for about 30 days beginning April 6

Virginia American Water said March 30 that hydrant flushing is scheduled to begin in its Prince William system from Monday, April 6, through early May. The routine work is being done as part of the company’s annual pipeline flushing program to improve water service by flushing out mineral deposits and sediment from water mains.

Hazmat crews set up environmental defense after oil found on stream in Manassas

Prince William County hazmat crews smelled petroleum and saw a suspected petroleum product in the tributary feeding into Lake Linden, a storm water management pond, off Williamson Blvd. in Manassas this morning, March 10, according to a news release from Prince William County Fire & Rescue.
