Western PWC Del. Lovejoy to file five anti-data center bills

Western Prince William Delegate Ian Lovejoy (R-22) has issued a news release saying he will submit five unique pieces of legislation aimed at mitigating growing data center impacts, particularly in Prince William County.

PWC sets land development information seminar for Jan. 28

Prince William County government will hold a free land development seminar on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Coles Firehouse, 13712 Dumfries Road, Manassas VA 20112. RSVP requested.

Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park among localities participating in pesticide removal

Through the 2015 Pesticide Disposal Program 62,261 pounds of unwanted pesticides were removed in Virginia localities including Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park. Participants included agricultural producers, licensed pesticide dealers and pest control firms, golf course operators and homeowners.

SCC sets April 28 hearing on power line from Remington to Gordonsville

State Corporation Commission (SCC) will hold a public hearing in Orange in April on an application by Dominion Virginia Power to build a new 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line between the company’s Remington substation in Fauquier County and the Gordonsville substation in Albemarle County.

Public invited to comment on state plan to manage protection of bees

Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) has announced the meeting schedule for the Agency’s State Managed Pollinator Protection Plan to give stakeholders an opportunity to provide input on the development of the plan. The closest meeting to Prince William/Manassas is Jan. 26 in Warrenton.

Prince William County landfill and compost sites to be closed Jan. 1, open Jan. 2

The landfill and compost facility are open every day of the year, except New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and early closing on Christmas Eve.

Recycle holiday greens at NOVEC’s Gainesville site

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative will accept evergreen Christmas trees, wreaths, and garland at its technical center at 5399 Wellington Branch Road, Gainesville, VA 20155, near I-66 from Dec. 28 through Jan. 10.

Saturday refuse & recycling services to continue at Evergreen VFD until Feb. 27

Saturday trash and recycling collection services held at the Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad station will continue through February 27, 2016 due to the cooperation of the volunteer fire company, according to a Dec. 23 news release from Prince William County Solid Waste Division. Previously it was announced that Dec. 26 would be the final day.

Update on PWDOT transportation projects

Prince William County government recently issued a report on the status of 16 local transportation projects.
