Prince William County Schools' Food and Nutrition Services looks forward to welcoming parents to Thanksgiving Luncheon at their students' schools on Nov. 19 or on any other day! Each school celebrates a little differently, so check with the school’s front office for details.

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Nov. 12 new exports of Virginia seafood to Canada as a result of his recent trade and tourism mission to the country.

“Virginia is the oyster capital of the East Coast,’’ said Governor Terry McAuliffe. “We have seen yet another year of remarkable growth in our oyster industry. Our oysters are delicious, harvested sustainably, and provide good jobs for hard-working Virginia watermen. When it comes to oysters, Virginia is all in.”

Nancy Harrover, Sudley's United Methodist Women (UMW) chair and dinner co-chairs Terry Abate and Karen Milihram, the tradition started in 1923 with 15 gallons of oysters. Today, the cooks prepare 40 gallons of oysters, 32 large turkeys and 18 turkey breasts. Sdes include mashed potatoes, dressing, green beans, Waldorf salad and more. Over the past five years, 1,100 to 1,200 in-house and carryout meals were served.

Virginia Cooperative Extension’s four-part health education series, Living Well with Diabetes, begins on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. Classes are held at the McCoart Administrative Center, 1 County Complex Court, Prince William 22192. A light meal is served from 6 to 6:30 p.m. as part of the class.

Virginia Grown apples are ripe and ready—for picking, for purchasing and of course, for eating. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) reports the outlook for the 2015 apple crop is excellent and says this is probably the finest crop of Golden Delicious apples Virginia has produced in years.

Seafood fraud worrisome. The fraudulent labeling of Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean blue crab meat has a detrimental impact on an industry that plays an important role in the Virginia and Maryland economies, generating nearly $30 million annually in ex-vessel revenue for commercial watermen in Virginia and over $58 million annually in Maryland, the release said.
