Two fires—the Quaker Run Fire in Madison County and the Tuggles Gap fire in Patrick County—broke containment lines over the weekend. The State of Emergency declaration allows dditional resources to be employed to contain these fires and to respond to additional fires as necessary.

League of Women Voters of VA (LWV-VA) has called for an independent investigation of the purging of at least 3,400 returning citizens from the voting rolls across the state.

Firefighters from the Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF) and partner departments are continuing containment efforts on the now 390-acre Quaker Run Fire that began Tuesday in Madison County near Syria, according to a DOF news release.

Virginia Gov, Glen Youngkin orders that the U.S. and Virginia flags shall be lowered immediately on Thursday, October 26, 2023, and remain at half-staff until sunset on Monday, October 30, 2023.
