Prince William County Animal Shelter has received laboratory results confirming that Calicivirus has been introduced to the Shelter, and a majority of cats in the shelter has been infected. Calicivirus, known as Calici, is a highly contagious virus that causes upper respiratory and oral disease in cats.

Several nighttime work zones will be active on northbound and southbound Interstate 95 this week in the Fredericksburg area, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). I-95 travelers are advised to use US 1 or US 301 to avoid delays. Message boards on I-95 will provide advance notice of lane closures and detour routes.

The Capital Area Food Bank has made public its proprietary Hunger Heat Map. Those who use the map can zero-in on the food insecurity data that pertains to the neighborhood they live in, giving a clear picture of what hunger looks like in local communities. The CAFB used the Hunger Heat Map to zero in on a Prince William County location to launch its first mobile feeding bus, which provided free, healthy lunches to about 300 children per weekday during the summer months.
