In anticipation of the inclement weather predicted for this weekend, the City of Manassas Park has issued the following advisory to residents and all Manassas Park Community Center patrons with so they can be better prepared and informed for this weekend and all winter season.

Crashes and disabled vehicles continue to plague interstates and secondary highways in Northern Virginia Thursday morning (Jan. 21). As of 6:00 a.m. Thursday, Virginia State Police statewide are on the scene of 33 traffic crashes with 24 of them in Northern Virginia. Of the 71 disabled vehicle calls statewide, 70 of them are in Northern Virginia.

All Prince William County Public Schools closed today, Jan. 21, due to inclement weather in certain areas. Code Red for employees. All school division activities including Professional Development sessions are cancelled. SACC will not open. Telework subject to policy.

Due to inclement weather Manassas Park City Schools have announced a 2 hour delay. Following our snow policy, there will be no AM Preschool or AM Extended Care at Manassas Park Community Center.

Low ground temperatures overnight mean that even treated roads have refrozen, according to VDOT. Drivers should delay commutes and use extreme caution on roads. About 500 trucks worked through the night to clear extremely treacherous conditions. Crews will remain on duty through the morning rush hour to continually treat slick roads.

Prince William County Public Schools and community evening activities including night school, GED, and adult education are cancelled as of 6:30 p.m. tonight due to predictions of below freezing temperatures and a clipper system passing through our area.

As the first of two forecasted snowstorms makes its way across Virginia Wednesday, residents are encouraged to plan ahead, be prepared and avoid unnecessary travel. Virginia State Police will have all available troopers and supervisors working in advance of and the duration of the storms as they make their way across and into the Commonwealth.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative is preparing for snow that weather forecasters say could reach Northern Virginia on Friday, Jan. 22. "If we get heavy wet snow or ice, we could have trees and branches falling on power lines and causing outages," Larry Shaffer, vice president, System Operations, was quoted as saying in a press release.
